The 40th Reunion:

Dod Courtyard
May 28-31, 2009

Dear ‘69ers: November 2008

T
his is it! Time to sign up for ‘69’s 40th. Don’t even consider missing this one.

Thursday – Afternoon golf (for those so inclined) followed by dinner at the new Springdale Clubhouse with music by Prospect Crossing, followed by a concert at headquarters with interspersed poetry featuring honorary Classmate Paul Muldoon and his internationally renowned band, Rackett.

Friday – An afternoon of Magic (with the occasional mystery) at headquarters, reception and dinner with classical strings, followed by dancing to Total Soul.

Saturday – Among many other things, our Class memorial service, the P-rade (redefined), reception and dinner at the boathouse with an excellent view of the fireworks, followed by the return of The Fab Four.

Sunday – The Sunday Jazz Brunch at Mathey College featuring classmate Barry Miles and his brother Terry ‘79

Think Reunions headquarters between events is boring?  Not this time.  A unique high-tech collage capturing the musical, cultural and political transformations that are etched in our Princeton experience will be running all weekend.  Think the P-rade has become boring?  Not this time.  Don’t miss the reinvention of this august tradition by the Great Class of 1969.

So much for the show.  What Reunions is really all about is the fellowship – the unique chance to see old friends, meet new ones, and to observe the ways in which Princeton has grown even stronger over the years since we were there.  We especially hope you will choose to join us this year if you have not been back in a while.  Enjoy a quiet moment in the Class of 1969 Memorial Garden.  It has become (as the Class had hoped, but could not actually foresee at its 25th) a favorite spot for taking a time-out from the increasingly hectic pace of campus life to reflect on just how fortunate we all are to share a bond through this unique place called Princeton.

In recent years many classes have designated a specific community service project in connection with major Reunions.  At the Class meeting on October 25 it was decided that we would focus our primary efforts in support of the Class of 1969 Community Service Fund (CSF).  Our 40th also marks the 15th anniversary of the CSF, launched at our 25th with a grant from our Memorial Fund.  This gift, and the work of a growing number of our classmates, now constitutes one of the most significant contributions of any class to the University’s growing commitment to make civic engagement and experiential learning essential elements of the undergraduate experience.  The CSF has reached a strategic crossroads in its development as the most successful program of its kind at Princeton.  The dialogue around the direction we should take will be ongoing at the 40th and we hope you will join in.

Registration Information and Instructions

You can register, reserve certain accommodations (see below) and order optional items of regalia either by downloading and completing the paper form (be sure to complete both front and back) and mailing it with a check to Chuck Freyer, or by clicking on the Online Registration button and following the online registration instructions.  Please provide all requested information.

Save money with our early-bird discount by signing up and paying before December 31, 2008.  Also, all early birds can enter our drawing for a free double room at the Nassau Inn for all three nights (Thursday-Saturday, a $1,350 value at reunions weekend rates).

The registration fee includes lunch and dinner Friday and Saturday.  Dinner Thursday at Springdale Country Club and brunch Sunday are separately priced to keep the registration fees under control.  The ’69 Open golf event (also separately priced) is limited to 40 people so sign up early.  Players will be able to shower and change at Springdale before the Thursday night dinner.

The basic Class uniform is unchanged.  Nearly all Classmates and spouses/partners march in the P-rade wearing the classic 1969 vest, which can be ordered (or re-ordered) using the registration form (paper or online).  By popular demand, the rugby shirt will be available this year for the first time since the 20th.  It will be long-sleeved and similar in design to the 20th version but made of a lighter fabric.  The most distinctive new ’69 logo offering is an elegant needle-point class belt, and we have a wide selection of other regalia to choose from.  Also note that a top hat (possibly with magical powers) comes as part of the registration package but ball caps with the 40th logo are an optional item. You can also order the Class 40th Reunion picture, framed or unframed.

The Class has arranged blocks of rooms/beds as follows: on-campus (50 dorm beds), at Princeton Theological Seminary (30 rooms, each with one single bed) and at Westminster Choir College (20 rooms, each with two single beds, double occupancy only).  If you are interested in any of these accommodations please sign up and pay for them when you register.  They will be allocated first-come first served based on when payment is received.  If your first choice is not available, you will be contacted by Jeff Marston, our Housing Chair.  If you win the Nassau Inn drawing, your housing payment will be refunded.

The Class has also reserved blocks of rooms at the following establishments.  Reservations for these should be made directly.  The rates are not discounted so if you prefer booking elsewhere, have at it.  A more complete listing of local area hotels is available on the Class website.
