The Economist has called Michael Porter ’69 “the doyen of living management gurus.” A professor at Harvard Business School and strategic counselor to numerous heads of state (as well as a University trustee), Porter has written widely on America’s competitiveness in a global economy. He spoke with PAW in early March about problems facing the economy and the administration’s initiatives to address them.

Forty-seven Classmates and guests are happy to report in on a great weekend at Gettysburg.  Once again, we were blessed that Professor James McPherson was willing to give our Class his time and expertise.  We were all impressed by his encyclopedic knowledge of the Gettysburg battle and its role in the outcome of the Civil War, plus his ability to connect these events to general state of the American life and technology at mid-18th century.  Maybe equally important, however, was the infectious enthusiasm (and energy!) that he demonstrated throughout the three days. 

Editor's Note: In June of 2005, the leadership of DRI-The Voice of the Defense Bar formed a task force, chaired by John Trimble, to investigate issues facing the judiciary across America. The task force determined that the most readily identifiable areas of concern for the judiciary were 1) adequacy of judicial salaries, 2) adequacy of court funding, 3) court security, 4) unjust criticism of judicial opinions, and 5) judicial selection.
