Class of 1969 Reunions and Mini-Reunions

Announcements and Reports about our Class's Major Events

'69's Rheingau Mini-Reunion, September, 2013

October, 2013

Few, if any, of the classmates and spouses who gathered for our mini-reunion in Wiesbaden, Germany on September 16th could have told you what the Rheingau is, or found it on a map, or explained its significance for the German people. But now we know, thanks to our hosts – classmate David Fisher and his German wife Étel, a marvelously energetic and gracious couple – who crafted this mini reunion, and together with Michael Jennings (PU Professor of German Studies and unabashed oenologist), led us on this mini-reunion adventure.  Click here for the full report, click here for the photos, and click here to see who went on this great trip.

Charlottesville Mini-Reunion focuses on the "Virginia Dynasty"

Tuesday, December 25, 2012

From Thursday, October 11, through Sunday, October 14, about 80 classmates and companions participated in the sixth Class of 1969 mini-Reunion, held in Charlottesville, VA. The theme for the intellectual component of this year’s Mini-Reunion was The Virginia Dynasty, with a special emphasis on James Madison: Virginian; Princetonian; Founding Father; primary author of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights; secretary of state; war president; planter and slave-owner, among many other roles. After all, 2012 is the bicentennial of the first year of the War of 1812.  We were headquartered at Wintergreen Resort, about 50 minutes from Charlottesville, Virginia.  We had two renowned intellectual leaders for the weekend, we had amazing accommodations at Wintergreen Resort and we had an amazing party at the Devil's Backbone  Brewery Co.  Professor John Stagg *73 of the University of Virginia, Editor in Chief of the Madison Papers, who, incidentally, began his Ph.D. work at Princeton under honorary classmate Jim McPherson in 1969, accompanied us on Friday.  Jefferson Looney *83, a scholar at the Monticello Foundation and editor of Jefferson’s retirement papers, was with us Saturday, complementing Professor Stagg’s Madison focus on Friday.  Click here to see the full schedule.  Click here for photos and click here for the trip report. Springfield Mini-Reunion provides Lincoln immersion

Monday, December 19, 2011

From Thursday, October 13, through Sunday, October 16, 43 classmates and companions participated in the fifth Class of 1969 mini-reunion, held in Springfield, Illinois, focusing on the life and times of Abraham Lincoln.  We have enjoyed a string of smash hits in these adventures together.  But never has the Class been taken in like old friends by what seemed to be the entire historic preservation community of Springfield.

‘69’s French Invasion Raises $25,000 for CSF

Wednesday, December 29, 2010

Fifty two classmates and spouses experienced what many of us felt to be the trip of a lifetime in ‘69’s first overseas mini-reunion – the France Invasion of September 2010. Organized (and the word gained new meaning) by Dick and Marian Bott with plenty of assistance from Jesse Okie (Chef de la Cuisine), Bruce Freeman (Chef du Personnel), Dan Harman and Curt Kehr (Chefs de la Communication), George Sheridan (Ministre de la Culture), and the Charriers (Factotums Généraux), the main excursion lasted eight days and took us from Paris, through Giverny and Bayeux, to the invasion beaches of Normandy and finally to Mont St. Michel. To top it off, through the combined generosity of the Forbes family and the trip participants, over $25,000 was raised for the Class of 1969 Community Service Fund.

Muldoon’s Class of 69 Premieres at Reunions

Friday, August 14, 2009
Thursday night of our 40th saw the world premiere of Class of 69 written by honorary
classmate Paul Muldoon and performed by his rock group Rackett. According to Wikipedia,
Muldoon's poetry is known for difficulty, allusion, casual use of obscure or archaic words,
understated wit, punning, and deft technique in meter and slant rhyme (go Paul!). But those
of us who actually remember our time at Princeton shouldn’t have too much trouble with this
one. Besides, what other class can say it is the subject of an original Muldoon? And as those in
attendance know, Rackett did a wonderful job playing the song as well, and was called on to
encore it at least once!

Gettysburg II, the Sequel -- a memorable weekend!

Thursday, September 18, 2008
Forty-seven Classmates and guests are happy to report in on a great weekend at Gettysburg.  Once again, we were blessed that Professor James McPherson was willing to give our Class his time and expertise.  We were all impressed by his encyclopedic knowledge of the Gettysburg battle and its role in the outcome of the Civil War, plus his ability to  connect these events to general state of the American life and technology at mid-18th century.  Maybe equally important, however, was the infectious enthusiasm (and energy!) that he demonstrated throughout the three days.
