Princeton in Africa Gala
Thursday, October 23, 2014
Thursday October 23 will be a very special night for
’69. Our classmates Jim Floyd and
George Hritz along with Frank Strasburger ’67 will be honored with the
Princeton in Africa Medal at PiAf’s annual gala dinner in New York City. PiAf’s mission is to develop young
leaders committed to Africa’s advancement. To accomplish this they offer opportunities for service
through year-long fellowships with partner organizations working in a variety
of sectors across the African continent.
This year 49 fellows are serving in 16 countries with 30 partner
organizations.
George and Jim were both co-founders of PiAf in 1999 and
George served for many years as its Chairman. But the roots go deeper. If the PiAf model sounds similar to Princeton Internships in
Civic Service it’s partly because they were both spawned from the same parent –
the Class of 1969 Community Service Fund.
In the early days the two shared offices and an Executive Director, our
own Seva Kramer h’69. As Jim likes
to put it, PiAf was born in a drawer in Seva’s desk. So come and hear the whole story. It will be a great night – ’69 and PICS are combining to be
Silver sponsors and we have reserved two tables.
Here are the particulars. Sign
up by October 3 by clicking on the button below or contact Bill
Charrier (bcharrier@carrock.net). Tax receipts for the evening will be
sent by PiAf.
